Lt. Col. Robert L. “Bob” Sparks, USAF Medical Service Corps (Retired), passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born on April 22, 1946, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to late Robert M. and Helen D. Sparks. He is proceeded in death by his brother Ronald Brian Sparks and his granddaughter Sophie Sparks.

He was a highly decorated career “Mustang” officer who retired as a Disabled Vet after 28 years of active duty in the United States Air Force, that including service in Vietnam and Desert Storm.

Bob is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 58 years: Helen (Dippel) Sparks; his brother Ralph Gordon Sparks and wife Patti of Davis, California: Sons: Robert E. Sparks and wife Cindy of New Braunfels; Stephen P. Sparks and wife Lynn of La Vernia. Daughters: Alisa Nicole Sparks and husband Michael Akers of San Antonio; Tracy L. Sparks and husband Henry Roberts of Kingsbury. Grandchildren: Travis Sparks and wife Destiny; Ashleigh Sparks; Savannah Sparks and husband Ben Bond; Tyler Sparks and wife Deanna; Jacob Sparks; Hailey Visser; Kyle Visser; Logan Visser. Great-grandchildren: Caroline, Wren, Cassian, Austyn, Eden, and Tucker. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bob embraced life with joy, humor, and a heart full of love. He cherished time with his family, creating lasting memories through laughter, stories, and steadfast presence. Known for his quick wit, kind spirit, and unwavering sense of duty to both his loved ones and his country, Bob left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His legacy of service, compassion, and integrity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, always.

In honor of his lifelong commitment to service, Bob asks that you remember in prayer all those currently serving in harm’s way on behalf of our great nation.

Visitation will be held on July 22, 2025 at Schertz Funeral Home, located at 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154. A rosary will be held at 10:30 am followed by a brief ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony, a private graveside service with full military honors will take place at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 pm.
