Lois Mae (Showalter) Duncan, of Cibolo, Texas passed away peacefully into the hands of our Lord on January 17, 2026. She was a gentle lady who always had a smile for all she met and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was 89 years in body and 29 in spirit.
Born in Caretta, West Virginia on May 8, 1936, Lois was the only daughter of William Archimedes and Sarah Jane (Riffe) Showalter. She grew up in Radford, Virginia surrounded by her many brothers and was often described as “like a mom” to them. Her nurturing spirit blossomed as she helped to “keep those boys in line” and every day she baked the bread for the family dinners.
She met the love of her life, Rommie Ervin Duncan, while she was still attending Radford High School. They eloped in December 23, 1955 to start their life journey together. She followed Ervin as a military wife throughout his USAF career, which took their family to bases in Texas, Germany, California and finally back to Texas. Their life together cultivated her strength and commitment to family while fostering a sense of exploration and travel in her children, Chuck, Shani and Shelly.
Along the way, Lois became the soft landing spot for her family. She always found time to be there for them as a cub scout leader, girl scout leader, Sunday school teacher, seamstress, or cake decorator. She was a 50+ year member as well as Past Worthy Matron of her local Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 911, a Gold Star Wives member, and Daughters of the Nile.
Her sweet calming spirit will be sorely missed by; Son, Donald “Chuck” Duncan and wife, Linda, of Indianapolis, IN, Daughters, Shani Willy, of Cibolo, TX, and Shelly Kisel, of Denison, TX; Grandchildren, Chad Willy, Jamie Lee (Matthew) Fields, Matthew Willy, Blaire (Frank) Horak, and Mitchell Kisel. Great Grands, Deanna, Ansel, Henry, and Taylor; Sisters-in-law, Juanita Showalter and Georgia Duncan and many nephews and nieces.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her two favorite Sons-in-law, Edward Willy and Paul Kisel. Also preceding her were her sweet brothers: Tom (Ruth), Bob (Judy), Don, Dick, Ted, John, and Jackie Joe.
A visitation will be held for Lois Mae Duncan at Schertz Funeral Home on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 11:30 AM. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 PM. Following the service there will be a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a Committal Service beginning at 2:30 PM.
