Leanne Dillon Finke
May 31, 1952 ~ August 12, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Leanne Dillon Finke, a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend. Leanne passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 12, 2025, at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and boundless compassion.
Leanne grew up in Dayton, Ohio, born on May 31, 1952 to Lon and Eileen Dillon. Following high school at Fairmont East, she graduated from Ohio University in 1974. Leanne was the beloved wife of her soulmate, Harry F. Finke, with whom she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in 2024. Leanne felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children, Maureen, Jonathan and Michael. Her family was the center of her world and her love for them knew no bounds.
Beyond her family, Leanne’s life was filled with lifelong friends, adventure, and giving back to others. She was a pillar of strength, always offering support and encouragement to those she loved, and she was considered by many to be one of the kindest and most loyal people they ever met. Ask any one of her decades-long friends who their best friend is, and they would say Leanne. Her adventurous spirit and desire to help others were traits that defined her, enriching both her own life and the lives of those fortunate enough to meet her.
Leanne lived an adventurous life, moving to Germany in the mid-1980s with Harry and their three young children in tow. She would never hesitate to tease Harry that, because of his career, she had endured 12 major moves over the course of her adult life on two continents – including from Ohio to Killeen, Texas, to Kaiserslautern, Germany, to New Braunfels, Texas, back to Kaiserslautern, back to Ohio and finally ending up in Universal City, Texas. She also traveled extensively through both Europe and North America.
At different times of her life, Leanne worked outside the home. Most notably, she worked for 13 years for Charles Allen, an accountant in New Braunfels, TX. She also volunteered extensively in both Germany and Texas and was a lifetime member of the Comal County Aggie Mom’s Club.
Leanne was a courageous fighter who battled appendiceal cancer for over 10 years. Her family would like to thank the doctors and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center and Oncology SA who supported her during her long fight. Of course, Leanne made great friends at those places as well.
Leanne was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Van Dillon. She is survived by her husband Harry, daughter Maureen (Tyson), sons Jonathan (Becca), and Michael, granddaughter Dillon, sister Jeanne Gordon, sister-in-law Nancy Kessler, and many in laws, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Leanne will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
A Memorial Service to honor Leanne's life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Schertz Funeral Home located at 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154. Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories as we celebrate Leanne’s life and legacy.
Visitation begins at 10am with the service at 11:00 AM
Leanne’s family wishes that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. MDAnderson.org/Gifts
