Lauren Kaye Larson Simpson

March 30, 1966 - January 1, 2023

Lauren Kaye Larson Simpson was called home to the arms of her Lord on January 1, 2023. Laurie was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. Born March 30, 1966, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Laurie was baptized into the Christian faith and later confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, South Dakota.

Laurie’s kindness and gentle spirit made a lasting impression on friends and classmates, graduating from Beresford High School in 1984.

On August 17, 1985, Laurie married the love of her life, Michael Simpson, and they built their life together. She studied at St. Mary’s University in Omaha, Nebraska, and UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, where she earned her nursing degree. Laurie dedicated her career to the loving care of the tiniest and most vulnerable patients – precious premature infants in the NICU. Her sweet and caring nature made her a perfect fit. Tragically, Laurie’s mental illness took away her ability to work as an RN and changed the way she was able to interact with all of us. What always remained clear was Laurie’s love and desire to care for her family and loved ones.

Spending most of their life together in San Antonio, Laurie and Mike raised three children, Timothy, Jason and Katie. Laurie’s family meant everything to her. Laurie was delighted when she got to spend time with her grandchildren -- Esimra, Damian and Aveon. She was preceded in death by her fourth child, an unborn baby who awaited her in heaven.

The family shared their lives and homes with a number of beloved family pets, which gave Laurie such peace and joy. Laurie loved to laugh, was always looking out for the needs of everyone around her and rarely passed up a card game.

Laurie is survived by her husband Mike, their children and grandchildren, her parents, Richard and Lois Larson and in-laws Gary and Sue Simpson. She shared her light and her life with her siblings: Paul Larson, and his wife Gina; Pam Krause, and her husband Frank; Debra Vogler, and her husband Jayson and brother-in-law Steve Simpson and his wife Tracy. Laurie will be remembered and missed by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Laurie's name to Any Baby Can: Any Baby Can - Campaign (snwbll.com)
