Schertz, Texas

Emblem

Larry Ritz, 84, of Schertz, Tx, went home to Jesus in the early morning of June 15, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. Larry was born in Newton, Ill on December 6, 1940 to Jerome and Mildred Ritz.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Mildred Ritz, and his brother, Richard Ritz. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Janet Ritz; his children, Mike (Kathy) Ritz, Michele Bailey, Christine (Jarrod) Polensky, Katie (Fernando) Perez, Beth (Charles) Hickman, Jonna (Jimmy) Miller, and Bernie Clark; 8 grandchildren (Sarah, Christian, Kami, Erin, Amber, Cooper, Addy, and Natalie); and 7 great grandchildren (Michael, Audrianna, Brody, Kennedy, Rylan, Arabella, and Sloane). He is also survived by his two younger sisters, Sheila (Lee) Chapple and Linda (Carl) Gilman.

Larry left his childhood farm in Illinois to join the US Army right after high school. His military service took him to France, Germany, and numerous state-side bases. He retired in San Antonio, Tx after 20 years of service. He continued his service to the military as a civil service employee in the Army medical personnel division for 22 years.

He will be lovingly remembered for his love for God and his family, his humor, and his “stubbornness”. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Feeling loved by God and his family was the most important thing to him. His ever-growing love and faith in God made him a better husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His faith carried him through his illness and created peace at his death.

As a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Larry’s Catholic faith was the foundation of his spiritual identity and relationship with God. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the OLPH St. Vincent De Paul Society.
