Kimberly Diane (Berrong) Frye, 62, died at her home in Schertz, Texas on June 24, 2026. She was born on March 28, 1964, in Maryville, Tennessee. Her parents are Wayne and Bobbie Berrong, also of Maryville, Tennessee.
She met her husband of 44 years, Charles Frye, while playing in a softball game in which he was umpiring. He told the other umpire that Kim was the prettiest girl he had ever seen, and that he was going to marry her. Seven years later, they were married. Kim played slow-pitch softball for over 30 years.
Kim was a halftime participant in Superbowl XIX while Charles was stationed at Mather AFB in Sacramento, California. The show was the first halftime ever shown. She was a pirate and a flag corp participant.
Most of her marriage was spent as an Air Force wife with stops at Mather AFB, Sacramento, California; Castle AFB, Merced, California; Blytheville AFB, Bytheville, Arkansas; Pyess AFB, Abilene, Texas; McConnell AFB, Wichita, Kansas; and McGhee-Tyson AFB, Knoxville, Tennessee.
Kim was married on February 17, 1983, at Friendship Baptist Church in Maryville, Tennessee to Charles Thomas Frye, Jr. They have two sons, Robert Andrew Frye (Alcoa, TN) who was born in Wichita, Kansas and weighed 11 pounds and 9 ounces, and Brandon Thomas Frye (San Antonio, TX) who was born in Merced, California (we found him in a grapevine!). Brandon's wife Heather (Haley) Frye (San Antionio, TX) and granddaughters Emma Frye, and Ellie Frye were the greatest joys of Grammie's life.
Kim was a member at Madison Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, pastored by her beloved preacher, Robert Bennett. She loved to sing Alto in the choir.
Kim will be buried on July 15, 2026, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at pavilion #3 at 10:30 A.M. (CDT). Her funeral will be livestreamed on schertzfuneralhome.com
