Kenneth Norwood

December 6, 1943 — February 19, 2023

Kenneth Eugene Norwood of Marion, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the age of 79. After several months of declining health, Kenneth died peacefully at home with his beloved wife of 61 years, Jimmie, his children, and grandchildren by his side.

Kenneth was born in Kerrville, Texas on December 6, 1943, to W.B. “Bid” Norwood and Emma Gene (Smith) Norwood. He attended Tivy High School, where he participated in 4-H, FFA, and football. At an early age, he began working at Swayze’s Garage on Water Street. With a desire to “see the world”, his father signed for him to enlist in the U.S. Navy just before his 17th birthday. He served his country for four years.

Kenneth met and married Jimmie Lee Thomas in 1961, together they had 4 children. His strong work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him having several different lines of employment over the years including General Dynamics, Mooney’s, and Williams Plumbing. Kenneth began as a welder for Swearingen Aviation in 1973. He retired in 2004 as head of the tool, sheet metal, and fabrication departments after 31 years of service.

Kenneth was a member of the PRCA until his late twenties when an injury ended his bull-riding career. A thrill-seeking outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter, and fisherman, as well as a rancher and a master gardener. He was a member of The Country Church in Marion, where he was a greeter for 21 years.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, brother Warren Norwood, sister Loretta Turner; grandson, Harley Norwood; and great-granddaughter, Leah Ramsey.

He is survived by his wife Jimmie Norwood; children: Sonya Norwood Hooten (Frank), Susan Norwood-Lawrence (Charles Raz), Kenneth Norwood II, and Clu Norwood (Misty Malone); grandchildren: Charles Lawrence (Amanda), Jessica Ramsey (Chris), Benjamin Norwood (Isliana), Clifford Norwood, Scott Norwood, Matthew “Trapper” Hooten, and James Norwood; great-grandchildren: Kylie Ramsey, Jeremiah Lam Jimenez, and Wyatt Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Kenneth is planned at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, for Friday, March 3, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at The Country Church on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 10:00 am with a military graveside service at the Garden of Memories in Kerrville at 2:00 pm. All are invited to attend.
