Kandis Ann Myers (Kandy) died on October 21, 2026, at age 75 in San Antonio, TX. Kandis was born in her childhood home in the small coastal town of Stonington, ME. She was born a twin (Kerry, deceased) to Collis & Muriel Jones on February 5, 1951, and was the second one born. According to Kandis, she was placed in a baking pan on the edge of the warm oven to act like an incubator to help her breath. This started the fiery personality that Kandis embodied.
Kandis grew up with 6 brothers and a sister to play with and many cousins within walking distance. Her first job was at a sardine factory, followed by waitressing. She often shared a story that she knew waitressing was not for her when she dropped a tray of filled water glasses in her mother's lap at a restaurant. She said she had a vision for seeing what was beyond Stonington and she joined the US Army in Portland, ME in 1971.
During the 20 years she served in the US Army, Kandis was stationed in Germany, North Carolina, Washington, DC and Texas. During her Honorable military career, she received a National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and a Sharpshooter badge w/M16 Rifle Bar and retired with rank of Sergeant. Most of her military career she was a Psychiatric Specialist and later became a Psych Tech Instructor. After she retired from the Army, Kandis worked an additional 20 years in the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Here, Kandis was able to assist fellow veterans with acclimating to civilian life and navigate veteran benefits. After she retired from the DAV, Kandis continued to pour into the veteran community through offering her knowledge, free of service, to veterans to get all of the disability benefits that they were entitled to.
While serving in the Army, Kandis was stationed in Germany where she met the love of her life, Conrad A Myers, Jr. Although they drifted apart, they were able to reconnect and marry 22 years later. Teresa Marie was born to Kandis in 1976, and she raised her largely as a single parent. Kandis and Conrad reconnected in 1995 and were married in 1996. They enjoyed 30 years together as husband and wife.
During their 30 years together, Kandis and Conrad enjoyed traveling, cruising and joining Baseline Bums (Go Spurs Go!). Kandis also volunteered briefly for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and as Vitas’s 13th hour volunteer program. Although late in life, Kandis then poured that same spirit of duty into God's work. Having confessed Christ and gone down in the waters of baptism, she walked faithfully with the Lord at Greater Corinth. She served as a deacon, later honored as Deacon Emeritus, worked in Deacons and Women's Ministries, stood as a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord, and helped people prepare to publicly profess their faith as a Baptism Coordinator and Attendant. She loved the Word, especially in the “Nuts and Bolts” Bible study, and she loved people enough to reach beyond church walls, supporting incarcerated women, battered women, and homeless women veterans.
Even when her body grew tired, her heart stayed willing. When she could not go, she gave. And yes, she could keep you in stitches with a Pepsi nearby, and laughter continuously flowing. We thank Almighty God for the life she lived, the seeds she planted, and the love that will keep speaking. Rest from your labor, Sister Kandis. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Kandis is survived by her loving husband Conrad A Myers, Jr., daughter Teresa Washington (Casey), stepson Tyrone Myers (Joy), her brothers & sister {Donald Jones (dec. Susan), Bruce Jones, Brent Jones (Arlene), Ellen Weeks (Arthur) and Phillip Jones (Kathy)}, grandchildren (Savannah, Marissa, Devin, Michael Jr, Michael Conrad, Matthew, Cassidy and Zora). She also had several great-grandchildren. Everyone that knew Kandis knows her love for animals, especially her cats, Nia, Jenny, Patches and Kitten. She is preceded in death by her parents, Collis Jones and her beloved mother Muriel Jones, two of her brothers, David Jones and Kerry Jones (her twin), her nephew, Jeffrey, her sister-in-law, Susan Jones and her cherished step-son Michael E Myers (Sandra).
