Kaetlyn Acuna

February 8, 1997 — March 6, 2021

Kaetlyn Elisabeth Acuna, age 24, passed away on March 6, 2021. Kate was born in San Antonio, TX on February 8, 1997 and graduated from Ace Academy of Creative Education. As a young girl, Kate loved adventures. From hikes to the “Rapunzel Tower” (Comanche Lookout Park) to hushed conversations and written notes for the fairies who lived in the flowers on our porch or even to singing her Princess Ariel inspired heart out at the beach or pool, there always was something a little otherworldly about our daughter.

As she grew, her talents in singing and writing took form and emitted an incredible light to those around her. Kate won numerous writing competitions because she wrote with such a compelling voice; her audience could truly feel her words. Kate also was an avid reader-a lover of poetry and Chuck Palahniuk.

Her artistic creativity also emerged early with an abundance of colorful beads and the bracelets she made for her friends, eventually moving to the more complex wire wrapping jewelry where she participated in various art shows. Her love of crystals and their different meanings allowed us a glimpse into the deep spirituality of her soul.

Kate had a way of charming everyone she met and made sure to make those around her feel special. She had much love and kindness to share, and those hugs…nobody will forget those hugs. She will be remembered as a fearless champion for those she perceived in need of her protection and caring deeply for her family and those she considered friends.

Kate’s biggest source of affection for many years was for her kitties. She took great joy in playing with the orphaned felines in multiple animal rescues…or anywhere she spotted one “needing” her cuddles and care. This passion was only surpassed by her fierce love for her son Sebastian. “Mama” Kate was radiant when she could hold him and smother him with kisses and hugs. How she adored her little angel, her favorite kitten.

Kate gave one final gift of generosity to those in need of help. Her wish to be an organ donor was granted, and she was able to help save five lives. We know how she loved that. From one of Kate’s favorite poets Rumi, “Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.” And so, while our Kate will be greatly missed, her light will not be dimmed; it will shine on through our bittersweet memories and her beautiful three-and-a-half-year-old son.

Kate is survived by her son, Sebastian Grey Acuna; parents, Amy Dyer and Ted Acuna; brother, Calvin Acuna; grandparents, Antonio and Yolanda Acuna, JoAnne Dyer Blair, John and Jane Dyer; godparents, Michele Badtke and John Dyer; aunts and uncles, Katie and John Dyer, Bill and Asala Dyer, Tony and Ann Dyer, Michele and Duke Badtke, Rick and Samantha Acuna, Anthony and Maria Acuna, Andrew Ortega, Shirley and Armando Celaya, Rudy and Joann Ortega, Robert and Corina Ortega, John and Mary Ortega; and first cousins, Becca and Andrew Dyer; Kylie and Peyton Badtke, Izere, Gen, Jaden, Anthony, Kristin, Lauren, Vincent, Blake, Brittany, Crystal, Eric, Russel, Richard, Thomas, Michael, Yolanda, Mandy, Andrew and AJ.
