June La Nell (Ahrens) Davidson

June 4, 1931 — December 4, 2023

June was born on June 4, 1931, to Harry and Thelma (Tezel) Ahrens in their family home on Kentucky Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. At the age of 92, she went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2023, at Oaktree Assisted Living in New Braunfels, Texas after her battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years Howard (Buddy) Davidson, sister Audrey Boezinger and husband Otto (Bubby), brother Charles Ahrens and wife Beverly, and son in law Michael Dean. June is survived by her daughter Gail Dean, grandchildren Jared Dean (Brawnwyn) and Erin Dean, and great grandchildren Kyleigh, Bailey, McKenna, and Braxton.

June was the third of 4 children – Ruth, Audrey, June, and Charles. She and her brother Charles were outside all the time “playing baseball, football, hide and seek, milk stoppers, and anything else they could think of”.

June married her high school sweetheart, Buddy, in 1949, at the age of 18. In September of 1955, June’s friend, a nurse, called from the New Braunfels hospital to say that there was a newborn that was being given up for adoption, and if they could get there right away, she could be theirs. And Gail made them a family of three. Buddy and June traveled a lot together through business related trips and brought along friends and family on road trips as well. They enjoyed such places as Africa, Paris, Rome, and a LOT of the USA. They traveled in vans and in motor homes, though June was not a big fan of camping.

June was the repairman in the marriage. She would tackle things that needed attention with skill, confidence, and ingenuity. Common sense was her gift. She was Buddy’s right-hand man when he started his businesses, and she worked for free rabbit raising, calf tending, bookkeeping, packing, shipping, and receiving.

In addition to being Buddy’s helpmate, June enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, bunco, tripoly, and making wine, glass grapes, ceramics, and other trendy crafts. She was a talented seamstress and made drapes, clothing, doll dresses, and items for sale in Buddy’s business. One major accomplishment was a gown she made for the Lutheran Coronation for Gail to model. This intricate and exquisite gown is pictured in the memorial slide show. She also crocheted and gifted MANY baby blankets and afghans throughout her life.

Because her selfless, generous nature, she was always donating things and sometimes would leave items on the curb outside her home. People would drive by and be blessed. She was always looking for ways she could help or make others more comfortable. She seldom made her preferences known, always submitting to the choices of others to bless them. June truly had a servant’s heart.
