Obituary

Juanita Rios Hesky, 93, of Cibolo, Texas, was welcomed into eternal rest on February 24, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. Born on August 8, 1932, in Runge, Texas (El Rancho Colorado), to Daniel Cavazos Rios and Estela Escamilla Rios, Juanita lived a life rooted in faith, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

She worked for many years at Physicians & Surgeons Hospital in Alice, Texas, before moving to California, where she later retired from San Jose State University. She met the love of her life, George Hesky, at 61. Their 15 years of marriage were filled with companionship, laughter, and deep love until his passing. Juanita found joy in traveling, shopping, dressing with timeless elegance, and dining out with family. Above all, she treasured time with her loved ones. To her family, she was a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jose Garcia Manrique, the father of her children; her beloved husband, George Hesky; her parents, Daniel and Estela Rios; her brother, Roberto Rios; her grandson, Joe Daniel Manrique; and her daughter-in-law, Delia Manrique, wife of Joe Manrique.

Juanita is survived by her children: Lydia Manrique Zuazua (Hector), Lisa Manrique Thomas (Don), Joe Rios Manrique, Daniel Rios Manrique (Alicia), Esther Manrique Newman (Kim), and David Rios Manrique (Thu); her brother, Rene Rios (Minnie); her grandchildren: Nelse Hinojosa, Robert Hinojosa, Michael Manrique (Samantha), Liza Manrique, Priscilla Manrique Garcia (Steve), Daniel Manrique (Laura), Alina Vela Rodriguez, Lori Vela Barnes (Allen), Melissa Vela Torti, and Thule My Manrique; along with 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter (who all lovingly referred to her as grandma great), and numerous nieces and nephews. Her legacy will live on in all who knew and cherished her.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Schertz Funeral Home, beginning at 5 pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 6 pm. The following day, March 5, 2026, the Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 am, followed by a procession to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
