John Raymond Trommetter, of New Braunfels, TX, was born on April 3, 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio. After a short illness, he lost his battle and passed lovingly into the arms of his Heavenly Father on January 4, 2022 at NE Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, TX, at the age of 62.
John was the fifth of seven children and first son of Raymond and Dorothy (Dot) Trommetter. John grew up in Euclid Ohio, where he spent his youth playing football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. There wasn’t a sport for which John didn’t excel.
John moved to San Antonio in the early 80s looking for work. He earned his living as a Commercial Construction Contractor and started his own company, JRT Construction, over 28 years ago. He recently decided to shut down his business and retire, which wasn’t easy for him. He missed his work family, the people he worked with over the many years, and the work routine more than he would admit and letting it all go was very difficult for him.
John loved to fish and spent as much time as possible at his place in Rockport fishing with his friends and family. He also enjoyed shooting pool with his pool buddies and rarely missed a Wednesday night ‘pool night’. He loved riding his Harley Davidson (‘geezer glide’ as he called it) and he and Dawn spent many Saturdays going for long motorcycle rides through the Texas Hill Country. John and Dawn recently purchased a toy hauler camper and were looking forward to trips around the country, riding the ‘geezer glide’ wherever the road took them. And in his spare time, John spent hours ‘tinkering’ in his workshop working on his handcrafted wooden bowls, platters and other wood-working projects. He was a true craftsman and never gave himself enough credit for his skills.
John is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Jerome Trommetter, his mother Alice Dorothy (Hribar) Rock and his younger brother Joseph Trommetter.
John is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Marie (Parker) Trommetter, his daughters Kristen Trommetter and Sarah Simmons (Brendon), step-sons Brian Soest (Lauren) and Daniel Soest (Samantha), sisters Amy Stuart, Ann Matteucci (John – deceased), Alison Lewis (Donald), Mary O’Leary, Greta Trommetter (Bob Kerney), and dozens of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, his extended family and an abundance of very dear friends. We will all miss him more than words can say.
In honor of "Big" John, a Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 2:00PM – 3:00PM, with a Memorial Service to begin at 3:00 PM, at Schertz Funeral Home at 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX.
