John Simmons

November 11, 1933 — December 16, 2021

Chief Master Sergeant Ret. John E. Simmons passed away Dec. 16, 2021. He was born on Nov. 11, 1933 in Dover, Arkansas.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and for the next 30 years he traveled extensively with assignments in England, Germany, Philippines, South East Asia and Korea as well as several bases in the United States. He retired from the Air Force in 1981. In Jan. 1982 he entered into civil service and retired in 1996.

He was married to his wife, Shirley for 65 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Baby Johnny. He is survived by a son, Garry with wife Larene; grandchild, Alex with wife Sarah; great grandchildren, Chloe, Audrey, Chelsy Thornton with husband Casey and Hanna; sister, Jo Clayborn with husband James and Lee with wife Wally.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00PM-8:00PM on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00PM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:45PM.
