John Lachance, Sr.

March 11, 1932 — December 6, 2008

John J. LaChance Sr., 76, passed away on December 6, 2008 in Seguin, Texas. Born in Jamestown, Rhode Island, John recorded his fondest and most vivid memories as a young boy growing up in this small New England town during the peak of World War II. John volunteered for military service at the age of 17 and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. John was later employed by the New Haven Rail Road where he served as a Signal Station Operator in Providence Rhode Island. John was an avid gardener who, like his father, took great pride in his large and highly productive gardens. John is most remembered for his keen intellect, resourcefulness and never-ending curiosity. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Marie (Duranleau) LaChance. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha C. (Cafferky) LaChance of La Vernia, TX; daughter, Donna M. Johnson, of Cranston, RI; sons, John J. LaChance Jr. of Hope Valley, RI, Stephen J. LaChance of Coventry, RI, Bruce A. LaChance of Woodbridge, VA and Colonel William P. LaChance & wife, Candace of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A private service will be held in Rhode Island at the convenience of the family at a later date.
