Joe Henry Barrera

August 12, 1961 — September 22, 2023

San Antonio, Texas

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Joe Henry Barrera, who left this world on September 22, 2023, at the age of 62. Joe was a dad whose heart was as dynamic as the rivers he loved to fish in, and whose passion for WWE Wrestling knew no bounds, and who leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength and hidden tenderness.

Born August 12, 1961, Joe was a man of few words, especially when it came to expressing his emotions. Yet, he has a profound and unique way of showing his love and care through his actions and stories- anyone who knew Joe would be captivated by his tales. His greatest passion in life was fishing, and it was in these moments of quiet contemplation, surrounded by nature with the sun shining on his face, that he found peace and solace.

While Joe may not have verbalized his compassion as openly as others, it was known that he illustrated his love in actions rather than words. Whether it was telling stories of him and his twin brother being cabezudos, the legacy of a professional wrestler, reciting the whole ‘Godfather’ movie, or just simply voicing his dreams on one day seeing the wonders of this beautiful world.

Joe is survived by his former wife, Rebecca Barrera and their children, Malorie and Joseff and half siblings, Genevieve Quintero and Steven Flores; his grandchildren, Adrian and Marco; his siblings, Mike Barrera and Annie Barrera; his nieces and nephews Michelle, Henry, Michael, Stephanie, and Victoria; his great-nieces and nephews, Stephani, Ryan, Michael Jr., and Carmen; as well as many primos, tios, and compadres. Joe is also survived by his furry grandchildren, Kitty-Chow, Ariana, Buttercup, Nacho, Julius, and Naminé.

As we bid farewell to Joe, remember that he always insisted we take time to appreciate each other. Don’t take time for granted, and like he said, “something doesn’t need to happen to get together. We should see each other more often…”. Always find it to forgive one another and build on those relationships, as you never know when it will be their last day.

A Memorial Service will be held for Joe on October 21, at Schertz Funeral Home, located at 2217 FM 3009 Schertz, TX 78154.
