Jerry Niebres Fernandez was born on 8 November 1954 in Olongapo City, Philippines. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, 18 December 2023 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 69 while surrounded by his wife of 45 years, Gregoria, his daughter and his son.
Jerry studied architecture in the Philippines before joining his mother in Nevada. In March of 1977, Jerry enlisted in the US Army and eventually was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston where he met his wife. The majority of his military career, he served as a supply sergeant while also designing and constructing different signs and architectural requests he received while at his posts. He received several badges and medals and served in the Gulf War. He retired from the US Army in 1994 then transitioned to the United States Postal Service and worked as a rural carrier. He then continued his studies at Central Texas College and a follow-up career in technology. In 2011, he and his wife moved back to San Antonio, Tx.
In the late 90’s, Jerry surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and became a born-again believer. He became a member of Harvest City Church and was water baptized in 2016.
Jerry was an avid collector of antique furniture and other items. He was known for his cooking and his carpentry skills. He was always willing to help friends and neighbors fix or renovate their houses. Jerry had a strong personality and a powerful presence that will greatly be missed.
He is preceded in death by his father; step-father; his grandparents; and sister, Myrna. He is survived by his wife, Gregoria Paspie Fernandez; daughter, Aileen; son, Jhedd; daughter-in-law, Angelique; granddaughter, Alanah; nephew, Derion Cado; mother, Rufina “Josie” Cado; sister, Sandra Craig along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family in the US and the Philippines.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 5:00 PM followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 PM at Harvest City Church. Interment will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #4.
