Javier Luis Rodriguez

On January 20, 2024 Javier, lovingly known as "Javi", entered into heaven the same way he lived, with courage, dignity, and love.  Javi was 30 years old when he unexpectedly passed away onboard the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN in the South Atlantic Ocean surrounded by his shipmates.   
From the day Javi was born on February 27, 1993 he brought nothing but joy and love to all those around him.  Our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend will be dearly missed by his family and all those who had the great fortune of getting to know him.  He was a gentle soul that would do anything for anyone.   He loved to read books, play video games, and as he would always say "relax".  As a military child, he learned to adapt to many different situations and overcome adversities.  Being part of a military family also afforded the opportunity to live in many different places including:  Miami, FL; Suffolk, VA; Mobile, AL; Alabaster, AL; and Topeka, KS.  He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School, Topeka, KS, Class of 2012.  Shortly after he graduated from high school he began work for the State of Kansas and on his birthday 2019 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  Enlisting in the Navy was one of his proudest moments. He was assigned to the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN where he served as a Culinary Specialist until the day he went to be with the Lord.  

Javier is survived by his parents Jose Javier and Amy, his mother Marliz and by his sisters Ashley, Gabriela, Sofia, Marlizha, and Isabel.  He is also loved and remembered by his Abuelito and Abuelita Jose Javier and Magnolia, his Oma Matilde, grandparents Nancy and Mark Dorr also Vaughn and Janice Moulden.  He is also survived by his loving aunts and uncles Clare, Dabeyba, Arturo, Luisito, Yvonne, Sheri and their families.  

He is preceded in death by his grandfather Luis Rodriguez.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help School Library (please call the school to donate; 210-651-6811), in honor of Javi's love of reading.

A Visitation will be held for Javier from 4:00PM - 7:00PM, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00PM, on Sunday, February 04, 2024 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00AM on Monday, February 05, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Selma, Texas. Interment will follow at 1:00PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
