Janice Parris

October 20, 1933 — January 8, 2014

Janice Mae Parris, was born on October 20, 1933, in Poteet, Texas. She graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1951. She married Eugene W. Parris on Jan. 8, 1957, and they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they lived for almost two years. They moved back to San Antonio where they lived until 1973 when they moved to Marion, Texas. Janice worked for Southwestern Bell and AT&T before she retired in 1985. She devoted her time to her family, which consisted of helping Gene with many projects, and supporting her sons, Eric and Tracy Parris, in their many school and church activities. She played the piano and enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. She was an avid reader and took great care and pride in the plants and flowers she grew and nurtured at her home. Her love for her family and friends was always evident in what she said and did. This came from her strong Christian beliefs and love for the Lord. She passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at the age of 80. Janice is survived by her sons Tracy and Eric and his wife Patricia, also her two grandchildren; Aaron and Katherine Parris. A visitation will be held at the Schertz Funeral Home on Wednesday January 15, 2014, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday January 16, 2014, at 10:00AM also at the Schertz Funeral Home, with an interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to McQueeney Baptist Church in McQueeney, Texas, or the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
