James, aka Jimmy to all who knew him growing up, was a son, brother, uncle, friend, and husband. Growing up in a household filled with athletes, James was not one to shrink back from competition. He and his siblings played many sports. He played football and basketball throughout JH and HS. He was on the Clemens football team when they won the district championship in 1984. When he graduated HS, he enlisted in the Marines where he eventually became part of the presidential guard and received the good conduct medal and other certificates of recognition for marksmanship as well as other acts of service. He considered it an honor to serve his country and, when he was honorably discharged, worked for Southwest Research for many years. James loved his family. He was very proud of his nephews and nieces. He even came to congratulate Jake at the Alamodome in December when he was being recognized. James had a good sense of humor. He liked to joke around. James also loved animals, and he loved to travel. His most memorable trips were Hawaii, France, England, Switzerland, Italy, and the trip he and Vicky took with his parents out west. They made many fond memories.

The most memorable and important decision of James’ life happened last year on July 27, 2025. He called and we had a long talk about whether we really believed all the things we said about Jesus and salvation. He asked if Dave and Jon did too. He was really interested in whether Dave and Jon really believed, because, as he put it, they are very smart and if they believed then there must be something to it. We talked some more and I asked him if he wanted to repent of his sin and ask Jesus into his heart. We had this conversation many times in the past, but this time was different! He did not say no. Instead he wept, prayed, and asked God to forgive him for all of his sin and asked Jesus to come into his heart. I truly believe he was saved that day. I know he still struggled in this world, but I also know we have a God who never gives up on us and is truly touched by the feelings of our weaknesses. I believe that all those who know Jesus will see James again because our God is able to keep us from falling and to present us before His glorious throne without fault and with joy. James was covered by the blood of Jesus. His struggles were real, but he is now free to worship his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, day and night. He is truly free and is filled with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Never stop praying for your loved ones. Never stop telling them about Jesus, even if they seem to ignore you. The seeds are being planted and the soil is being prepared and watered. God will cause it to grow at the right time. He did for James! God truly does make all things beautiful and somehow works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose!

James was preceded in death by his father George Edward Voos, sister Sandra Lynn Voos and niece Sarah. He is survived by his mother Joyce, brother David, sister-in-law Michaelle and their children Aly, Jake, Jon and, daughter in law, Kinley, and Vicky Lozano. James is loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Service for James will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 11:30 AM, with a Visitation hour to begin prior at 10:30 AM. A Graveside Service will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 PM.
