James Stuart Johnson

May 10, 1941 — July 22, 2025

James “Jim” Johnson, 84, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 10, 1941, in Eagle Pass, Texas, Jim lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, his family, and his community. For over 40 years, he was a devoted husband to Leigh Johnson, building a life together grounded in love, service, and unwavering commitment.

Jim was a proud and loving father to Tracy Heaton, Stuart Johnson, and Kelly Bowker. He also deeply cherished his sister, Deborah Pulley, and her husband Greg, of North Carolina.

A faithful and active member of Northern Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Jim served in many meaningful ways. He was a gifted bass player in the church’s music ministry, where he found joy in praising through song. He was also deeply involved in several church ministries, including the Prayer Group, Kairos Prison Ministry, and the Walk to Emmaus — each a reflection of his dedication to uplifting others and living out his faith.

Jim was well known for the handcrafted wooden crosses he lovingly created and shared with friends, family, and members of his community. These crosses, like Jim himself, were humble, thoughtful, and rooted in a deep spiritual love.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, compassionate heart, warm sense of humor, and the deep faith that shaped every aspect of his life.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on August 9, 2025 at Northern Hills United Methodist Church to honor and celebrate Jim’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Northern Hills United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice in his memory.

Jim’s legacy lives on through his music, his ministry, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and faith.
