Jim was born in Norwalk, Connecticut to James and Dorthy Madison. The eldest of seven children. Jim joined the army at the age of 17 and served his country proudly for 20 years. After retiring from the army, he retired with 26 years at Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital. Jim was an avid golfer. He was good enough to make the All-Army Golf team while he served. He Played golf all over the world and was a member of the Fort Sam Housten Men's Golf Association for 25 years. Jim is survived by his wife Peggy of 42 years. He was a proud father of 4 children, James (Elain), John (Lisa), Emily (Calvin) and Greg. He was also a loving Dad to Peggy’s 5 children, Tina, Lisa (Chris), Angela, Rick (Yve) and David (Esmi). Together he and Peggy had 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bill and wife Peggy and brother-in-law Sam Ferro.

Jim loved his church and his church friends. He spent many hours after retirement working at the church. In lieu of flowers it is requested a donation be made to Triumphant Lutheran Church in Garden Ridge, Texas
