Mr. Ignacio Rivas (“Tommy”) Becerra, born to Crispen and Paulina Becerra July 31, 1930 in Zuehl, TX, died peacefully March 24, 2021 in Seguin, TX. He was 90 years young.

Tommy joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a firefighter and advanced in that career field until his retirement in the 1970s. He served the country he loved for 26 1/2 years.

After his retirement he worked for Boeing as a fire chief stationed in Seville, Spain. After Boing he worked at USAA for the next 15 years.

Tommy and Vera have been faithful members of Randolph Air Force Base Chapel for many years. Tommy served in several leadership positions in both the men’s group and the parish council. His passions in life included his family and his faith and he was an especially gifted gardener, growing everything from flowers to fruits and vegetables. His great sense of humor was known to all.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Vera, whom he met while stationed at USAFE base High Wycombe in England. He is also survived by his daughter Melanie Jackson and his granddaughter, Courtney Jackson as well as four sisters Juanita, Socorra, Lupita and Alphonsa, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their best wishes to the staff at Hacienda Oaks Nursing and Rehab facility and especially to Tommy’s nurse Dorothy and aide Misty.

A graveside service will be conducted April 22 at Ft. Sam National Cemetery.
