Henry Michael Lantgen, 89, of Cibolo, Texas passed away peacefully at The Brooks of Cibolo on the morning of August 28th. Henry was born in Watertown, South Dakota on April 24, 1934, to Lawrence and Velma Lantgen. Henry joined the military in June of 1957. He worked his way to becoming a Master Sergeant serving in the United States Military for over twenty years and, upon retirement, worked for the VA. He married Lois Lantgen in August 1962, eventually building their home in Schertz, Texas in 1966.
Henry’s humble beginnings carried through to his home life in Texas. He could often be found tending to his garden, floating in the pool, or making food for his family. He cherished the time spent with his family, whether fishing or teaching them how to cook. Despite his stoic demeanor, Henry was always a warm and affectionate “Papa” to his many grandchildren. His jokes, laughter, and memories of him chasing the youngins of the family around the house will forever be in our hearts, while the taste of his famous breakfast tacos will forever tantalize our stomachs.
Henry is survived by his wife Lois Lantgen; siblings Melvin Lantgen, Norma Opdahl, Nina LaRock, and Douglas Lantgen; daughter Michelle Lantgen and her significant other Gary; granddaughter Virginia Garcia and her husband Santiago; granddaughter Danielle Foley and her husband Bill; granddaughter Chelsea Zehnacker and her husband Steven; granddaughter Katlin Mackey; and many great-grandchildren. Henry is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Velma; sibling, Victor; and sons, Michael, and Craig Skomswold.
