Harvey Malcolm MacLauchlan

Harvey Malcolm MacLauchlan, 74, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 09, 2023 on the porch of his home in Cibolo, Texas. He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada to the welcoming arms of Malcolm and Erma MacLauchlan. Growing up on the MacLauchlan homestead in Stanhope, Harvey joined Jean, then brothers, Arnold and James and sister, Helen Elayne (whom was born and passed on June 9, 1950).

Harvey went to Stanhope School, then attended West Covehead School through high school before becoming a merchandiser at K-MART. He met the love of his life, Else Skaarup, by asking her to sing in the choir with him. A year later, on September 2, 1972, Harvey and Else married at River de Chute and would raise together a family of 5 children: Marilyn, Elayne, Malcolm, Rebekah and Mark. Harvey worked delivering Co-op Fuels for many years. He also worked as a life insurance agent. In 1994, the family moved to Cibolo, Texas. Leaving the island was the hardest thing Harvey did but it was for the kids that he had made this decision. Harvey worked as an insurance salesman and financial advisor for many years in Texas. He later became a school bus driver of nearly 10 years for SCUCISD and Marion ISD before retiring to become “neighborhood watch”, working from his front porch daily. Harvey joined Else in house-sitting for Dr. Steve and Nora Burkhart, who were close as family, and who have been such a blessing to the MacLauchlan family. 

In 2022, Harvey and Else honored their 50^th wedding anniversary by having the celebration of a lifetime with their family and friends.  Harvey had a large family on the Island, New Brunswick and Ontario that he kept in touch with by sending cards for birthdays and anniversaries, along with his phone calls. Harvey kept in touch daily with all of his kids, grandchildren, siblings, extended family and friends, and was always an encourager and his family's greatest cheerleader, never missing a birthday or anniversary wish. 

Harvey is survived by his loving wife, Else Skaarup MacLauchlan; his 5 children and spouses, Marilyn with Dan Moseley, Elayne with Brandon Hudson, Malcolm MacLauchlan with Kayci, Rebekah with Mike Gatlin and Mark MacLauchlan with Andrea; 13 grandchildren, Danielle, Haley, Ryan, Marissa, Brianna, Megan, Katie, Ash, Brooke, Drue, Maycee, Dylan and Abigail; siblings, Jean with Wayne Robinson, Arnold MacLauchlan with Grace and James MacLauchlan with Martha.

A Visitation for Harvey will be held from 5:00PM - 8:00PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will take place at 9:30AM on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
