Guadalupe L. Gonzales “Lupe” was a proud United States Army veteran, who served during the Vietnam War as a combat infantry solider, he was a respected and loved member of his community. He passed away on Wednesday, April 8 at the age of 76 in Schertz, Texas.
Born on December 12, 1949 in Seguin. Lupe answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage, resilience, and an unwavering sense of duty. His military service remained a source of deep pride throughout his life and shaped the values he carried forward integrity, discipline, and strength. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Fallen Heros and the local VFW.
Above all, Lupe was a dedicated father whose love and guidance left a lasting impact on his family and friends. He was known for his support, wisdom, and the example he set through his actions. Whether offering advice, sharing funny stories, or simply being present, he created a foundation of love and acceptance for those closest to him.
He will be remembered for his humility, his service to others, and the enduring legacy of honor he leaves behind. Lupe is survived by his wife Maria Gonzales, children, Jessica Gonzales and Juan “Johnny” Rivera, three grandchildren, three brothers, three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Josephine and father Heriverto Gonzales, brother Jose Gonzales and sister, Mary Helen Mendoza.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Visitation will take place from 5:00PM - 8:00PM, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00PM, on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00AM on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Schertz Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held May 4, 2026 at 11:15 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
