Guadalupe 'Ms. Lupe' DeLuna (Zavala) Brazil, 82, of Schertz went to be with the Lord Monday, July 14, 2025 after a brief illness.
Born December 1, 1942 in Karnes City, Tx, Ms. Lupe is the fifth of seven children of Santos and Feliciana (Alvarez) DeLuna. A natural caretaker, Lupe helped care for her two younger siblings while at home, husband and two children after marriage, then as an aide at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center. Stepping out of her comfort zone, Ms. Lupe worked at Motorola, Inc. in Seguin, where she retired after 20 years, then as a bartender at Forest Waters and Cibolo Bowling Club. She returned to care giving, working at a local daycare center, before opening her home to several families over the years.
Ms. Lupe - 'Mother', 'Grama', 'Mimi' - is survived by her children, Mary Alice Spence (Steven) and Abran Zavala, Jr. (Cassandra); grandchildren Christopher Spence (Vanessa), Andrew Spence (Xin), Joshua Spence, Phillip Spence, and Brittny Zavala; great grandchildren Andres, Mayli and Grayson; 14 nieces and nephews, 44 great-nieces and nephews, 104 great great nieces and nephews and numerous extended families.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard D. Brazil, Jr.; her children's father Abran Zavala Sr., she joins her siblings Juanita D. Contreras, Epifania D. Perez, Pedro DeLuna Sr., Jesus DeLuna, Elogio DeLuna, Santos D. Longoria; nephews Michael Longoria, Ismael Perez, Israel Perez, Pedro DeLuna Jr., great niece Dominik Mendoza and great nephew Anthony DeLuna in heaven. A faithful servant of our Lord, Ms. Lupe was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she volunteered in the CCD program and Good Samaritan Oncology Support Group, a volunteer group making lap quilts for cancer patients. She lifted family and friends in prayer every day.
Visitation and Reciting of the Rosary will be Friday, August 8, 2025; Visitation-5:00-7:00 PM; Rosary 7:00 PM; Schertz Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be Saturday, August 9, 2025; 10:30 AM; Smiley Latin-American Cemetery, Janicek Rd., Smiley TX 78159.
