Gertrude Phelps

Gertrude “Trudy” Phelps passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on December 5, 2022, with her family by her side. Trudy was born in Paterson, New Jersey on November 25,1923, the eighth of nine children born to William and Hannah Bush. She married Leon “Jim” Phelps on March 19,1947 in Midland Park, New Jersey, and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Jim preceded her in death in 2001. During Jim’s Air Force career, they lived in Germany, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland and Texas, eventually retiring in Universal City, TX. Trudy enjoyed growing all varieties of African Violets and was a longtime supporter of Homes for the Homeless animal shelter, always providing many baked goods for the annual bake sales. Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and son-in-law Ronald Ridge.

She is survived by her daughter Elaine Ridge; her grandchildren Ronald Jr (Candice), Lori (Jeff), Ryan (Taylor Beth), Lindsay (Jaclyn), Randall (Laura), Russell (Carter), and Jay; Great- Grandchildren Christopher, Dawn, Riley, Callen, Landrie, Quinn, Anna, Avery, Kai, Kallie, Weston, Levi, Hadley, Logue and Tessa.

The family would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Trucare Living Center- Selma who lovingly cared for Trudy in her final years.

A Private graveside service is planned for Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
