Gary L Rose

June 28, 1947 — March 12, 2024

Gary L Rose of Cibolo, Texas was called home by our Lord and Savior on March 12,

2024. Gary was born on June 28,1947 in Anna, Illinois to Edith and Jesse Rose. He lived in Ewing and Benton, Illinois during his formative years. In 1965 after graduation from Benton Consolidated High School, he pursued a degree in Computer Operations at the Vocational Technical Institute branch of Southern Illinois University. In 1967 he joined the US Air Force where he spent 20+ years at US and Thailand bases. He also completed a bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University while in the Air Force. In August 1970 he married Cynthia (Cindy)Paxton and they were married for 53 years.

Gary is survived by his wife, Cindy, daughter Camala Turnage (Nathan) and grandson Cooper Turnage. He is also survived by a brother, Rick Rose and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, George Rose.

Gary traveled the US and Thailand during his computer (Information Systems) career in the Air Force. He often laughingly responded that he "flew computers" when asked about his Air Force career job. He actively attended several churches and base chapel programs throughout his Air Force career. In recent years, he was a member of Universal City UMC where he was an usher and a former Trustee along with other committee activities. In 1988 after retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Bexar County Information Systems as a data information systems manager for 22 years. That county government career piqued his interest in local community and government affairs. So, after his retirement, he continued to be a volunteer in several community activities. However, his passion was softball (slow and fast pitch) umpiring. He especially enjoyed helping with training of new umpires and watching the character growth of the athletes that he umpired. Gary's life centered around his faith and his love for people and family.

Gary's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will take place on March 23, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Universal City United Methodist Church, 90 Winn Ave, Universal City, Texas. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Universal City UMC or to new softball umpires or teams who need uniforms or equipment.
