Gary Maier

On Sunday, June 26, 2022, Gary Maier went to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven.

He was born at his family farm in North Dakota on May 14, 1941 and he spoke only German until he went to school- The Country School, a one-room school house.

His father was a masoner, so Gary learned that trade as a young man. Then he left ND for more opportunities in California. In 1965 he married his childhood sweetheart, Janice Heitzmann, and took her to CA to live. He had his career with IBM in San Jose and retired with his wife in New Braunfels- a tribute to his German heritage.

Gary was a loving husband and friend to many. He was always ready with a humorous story or words of wisdom for any situation, yet never wanted to be the center of attention. He was thoughtful, despised gossip and didn’t hold grudges.

He loved his birthday so drawing his birthday celebration out for 2 weeks was a favorite time.

He had many varied interests, but he did love working in his yard and his shop. He and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling together and with friends; meeting family in Germany and seeing sites and people.

Gary is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice, 5 nieces, and 2 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Hulda Haupt, his father Fred Maier, and his 2 sisters Agnes Heiser and LaRue Maier.

He loved the Lord and had a quiet, deep faith. He will be missed, but he had the assurance that he would be standing in the presence of the Lord.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10:30 AM at The Country Church in Marion, with a Visitation beginning for the public at 9:30 AM. There will be a Graveside Service following the Funeral Service at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
