Evelyn Ruedrich

Evelyn Emma Gutz Ruedrich passed away May 26, 2013 at the Autumn Wind Lodge in Schertz Texas. Evelyn was born on September 4, 1921 to Frido and Ella Brietzke Gutz on the Marion farm where she lived most of her 91 years. Evelyn is Heinrich Scheeles Great Granddaughter. Heinrich came to Texas in 1848 in the first year of the German immigration to the Texas Hill Country via Indianola on Matagorda Bay. Her Great Grandfather Wilhelm Gutz arrived in Galveston in 1856. Gutz bought a farm southwest of Marion. His son Herman married the neighbors oldest daughter Emma Scheele. Herman and Emmas son Frido was Evelyns father. Evelyn married Reno Ruedrich on February 22, 1941 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Marion. They farmed, gardened and raised Angus Cattle for decades. Evelyn was a 4-H leader, member of the Extension Homemakers Association and long term participant on the Guadalupe County Fair showing Angus Cattle and her home grown canned produce. Her beautiful glass jars of Pears won many Grand Champion Prize Ribbons. Her Angus Cattle earned Championship trophies which graced her home. After selling the cattle, Evelyn traveled extensive in the US and aboard. She visited her grandchildren in Alaska and on the East Coast frequently. She is survived by her sons Robert Lee (Katie) Ruedrich of Marion and Randolph Ruedrich (Gloria) of Anchorage Alaska, grandchildren Renea (Alan) Atkinson of Seabrook, Texas, Randolph Ruedrich Jr of Anchorage and Rachelle Annette (Timothy) Todd of Alpharetta, Georgia, 5 great grandchildren and cousins Gilbert Brietzke and Rosalie Pfeil. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Reno, her parents Frido and Ella Gutz and her brother Edward Gutz. A visitation will be held Saturday June 1st at 9:00 am in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Marion. Funeral services will follow at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Marion at 10 am. Interment will be in the family plot at Marion Lutheran Cemetery.
