Eugene Joseph Kurtz, 94, of Universal City went to his heavenly reward on January 25, 2024. 

Gene was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on July 14, 1929~ to Eugene S. and Mary Katana Kurtz. 

After entering the Air Force he married the love of his life, Julia Kara. Their marriage lasted just shy of 73 years. His career with Strategic Air Command took them to; Ovid N.Y., a remote assignment to Japan, Roswell , N.M.,  Athens Greece and finally to military personnel at Randolph Air Force Base. He retired with 22 years of service to his country.

Gene was not one to "retire." He then went to work at Randolph Field National Bank, where he was a vice president and loan officer. Many small businesses in Universal City were started due to loans he approved.  After leaving the bank he drove cars for Hertz for many years. Free time found him volunteering at the retiree office on base for 15 years. He was a member of Converse Lions Club and a former President. Saturday evenings he was an usher at mass at Chapel One. 

Gene played guitar, was an avid reader, craftsman in many medias, gardener, fisherman, cyclist and walker.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Julia, four children; Loretta (John), Stephen (Donna), Nola (Skip), Guy (Pearl), eight grandchildren; Kelly (Jim), Jeffrey,  Angela (James), Mark (Laura Ann), Daniel, Alison (Scott) Amanda (David), Sarah. Nine great grandchildren; Katelyn, Grant, Kara, Fitz, Harry, Luke, Julia, Solomon, and Carmen. A sister, Brenda (Richard), and cousin Barbara and her family. 

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and brother Tony.  He was part of the greatest generation. A man of strong faith, a hard worker, proud of his country and deeply loved his family. He made the most of his days on earth. 

Burial will be a private service at Holy Cross Cemetery. 

Memorial donations can be made in his name to the charity of your choice. 

Rest peacefully Dad. We love you.

His wings were ready. But our hearts were not.
