Eugene A. Hubnik: November 22, 1938 – December 5, 2025 Eugene August Hubnik of Garden Ridge, TX passed away on December 5, 2025, at the age of 87. Eugene was born in Cameron (Marak), TX to the late August A. and Mary C. (Sevcik) Hubnik on November 22, 1938. 

Eugene graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in 1956. After graduation, he worked at Walled Lake Door Plant where he was in charge of their shipping department. Eugene joined the Texas Army National Guard Chain of Command (CoC), 3rd Military Tank Battalion / Armor in Cameron, TX, on December 5, 1955. On October 1, 1961, he was called into active duty as part of the 49th Armored Division at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, during the 1961 Berlin Crisis. The Division deployed to Fort Polk in Louisiana and remained until it was released from active duty on August 15, 1962. Eugene returned to serve with the Texas Army National Guard Armor CoC, 3rd MTB / 112 Armor, in Cameron, Texas. 

In time, Eugene took a dual status US Army Reserve and Civil Service technical job. His dual employment started in Dallas, TX, transferred to Waco, TX then ended in San Antonio, TX where he joined the 90th US Army Reserve Command Unit. While serving in the US Army Reserve, he held various roles that demanded leadership and responsibility. These experiences led to multiple promotions, advancing him to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) and Supervisory Staff Administrator (GM 0301 13). After 45 years of service as a dual status technician, Eugene retired at the end of December 2000. He earned multiple military and civilian honors throughout his service, culminating in the esteemed Meritorious Service Medal. This achievement was commemorated on his special vehicle license plate and will be displayed with pride on his burial suit. 

Eugene married Rosie Valenta of Snook, TX on July 29th, 1961. Eugene and Rosie were blessed with two sons: Eugene (Gene) and Michael (Mike). 

After his retirement, Eugene and Rosie traveled via cruises and various bus trips. He continued to find enjoyment through his woodworking skills. He produced a range of items, including clocks, gun cases, heart-shaped jewelry boxes, and a sewing machine cabinet. He took pleasure in working with his hands, constructing, and renovating two houses alongside his son, Gene. 

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and son, Mike. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosie Hubnik; his son, Gene and wife, Cyndi. His granddaughter, Sydni and his grandson, Douglas and wife, Emily, and great granddaughter, Georgie Quinn. He is survived by his sister, Sister Andrea Hubnik; his brother, Steve Hubnik; and his sister, Elizabeth (Liz) and husband, Arvel Jungmann.

A visitation will be held for Eugene August Hubnik on Friday, December 19, 2025 beginning at 10 AM in the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM.. The Graveside Service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, we will depart in procession immediately after the Funeral Service.
