Obituary

Espevia Lorraine Gutierrez, aged 87, died peacefully at her home in Cibolo, Texas on July 27th, 2026. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Bob, Jack, and Fern, and her children, Keith Blalock and Shelley Botello.

Espevia is survived by her husband of 60 years, George Gutierrez, daughters Jeanette Starr (Bob), Jennifer Myers (Daniel), and son Mike Gorney (Rebecca), her 29 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her furbaby, Chica.

Espevia was an avid animal lover. She was a dedicated caregiver for many lucky pets, and she loved working on the farm with cattle and horses.

Espevia was born in Little Falls, Minnesota in 1939, to the late B.L. and Fern McFarlane. She moved to Seattle as a young girl, where she lived until the 60’s, when she then made her way to her beloved home state of Texas.

Espevia was a Jill of all trades and a gifted photographer. She ran the golf course snack bar at Randolph Air Force Base, worked in the HEB warehouse, worked at the family business, Alamo Waste, and was a secretary of the Business Club in Schertz.

Espevia had an adventurous spirit, a contagious sense of fun, and enjoyed trips to the Port Aransas Beach with her family on special occasions.

The Gutierrez family would love for their family and friends to join them for services honoring our beloved Espevia.

A viewing will be held on August 4th from 5-8 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m.

The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 5th at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Marion, with graveside service following at OLPH Selma Cemetery #2 at 1:15 p.m.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Jennifer and Daniel Myers, and to MaryHelen Garcia for the care they provided to Espevia.

“Goodbyes are not forever, death is not the end; it simply means I’ll miss you until we meet again.”
