Eleanor Compton

April 30, 1949 — February 1, 2022

Eleanor Gretchen Compton, 72, of Schertz, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2022 following a brief illness.  Eleanor was the widow of Thomas “Thom” Compton whom she married on August 19, 1979 in Hamlin, PA.

Eleanor was born in Scranton, PA to the late Loren and Mildred Stone on April 30, 1949. She attended Lake Ariel High School in Lake Ariel, PA and went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree in Scranton, PA. Eleanor was employed as an LPN for a short number of years but was an accomplished homemaker for the majority of her life. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crafting, camping and a good cup of coffee. Eleanor was a lifetime member of the Greene-Dreher-Sterling Fair in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania, where she loved interacting with people, working the bingo hall and making announcements from the information booth with Thom.

Eleanor is preceded in death by husband Thomas and daughter Tracey Lee Compton.

Eleanor is survived by son Darren Compton and wife Kelly (Greeley, PA); daughter Rebecca White and husband Gordon (Peyton, CO); son Jeffrey Compton and wife Jaclyn (Greeley, PA); brother John “Jack” Stone and wife MaryAnn (Hamlin, PA); grandchildren Courtney, Ava, Alexis, Taylor, Morgan, Eric, Zachery, Lauren, Hailey and Thomas.

The Compton family would like to acknowledge and extend a heartfelt thank you to Eleanor’s daughter, Rebecca, for her unwavering and devoted care she provided for her mother in her greatest time of need.

Internment will be held at a later date where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and daughter in Hamlin, PA.
