Age 80 | Saint Hedwig, TX

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith Young Taylor, who departed this life on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 80. A resident of Saint Hedwig, Texas, Edith was surrounded by love at her home.

Born on September 23, 1944, in Mescalero, New Mexico, Edith was the beloved daughter of James Young and Elizabeth Saenz. She grew up in New Mexico and attended Tularosa High School, where she was proudly voted Most Athletic—a nod to her vibrant spirit and competitive nature. She later graduated from New Mexico Highlands University.

Edith married Robert Taylor in 1965 and in 1966 they together had their only son, Steven. She worked in the ATC History Department at Randolph Air Force Base, where she retired after 38 years of dedicated service.

A proud Catholic, Edith lived her faith steadfastly. She was a woman of strong opinions and even stronger love. Edith was an absolute firecracker with a heart of gold—sharp-witted, fiercely honest, and never afraid to speak her mind. Her storytelling could light up a room, drawing laughter, tears, and everything in between. Beneath her feisty, sarcastic charm was a deep, unwavering love for her family—especially her grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She loved hard, lived boldly, and left no emotion unspoken.

She found joy in simple pleasures: crocheting, reading, and cheering on her great-grandson Austin at his soccer games.

Edith is preceded in death by her former spouse, Robert Taylor.

She is survived by her loving family: Son, Steven Taylor and his wife Tammy; Grandchildren, Sara Stolle and her husband Scott, Roxanne Davis, Chris Jimenez, and Danny Jimenez; Great-grandchildren, Austin Mata, Olivia Mata, Bexar Mata, and Tamara Jimenez; Sister, Roberta Frizzell and her husband Frizzell.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Monday, July 28, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home. A graveside burial will follow in Tularosa, New Mexico, at a later date.

Edith’s son, Steven, would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Schertz Funeral Home, his wife, Tammy, his daughters, Sara and Roxanne, and his grandson, Austin for their love, care, and support during this time and process.

Edith’s laughter, wisdom, and fierce love will be missed beyond words—but her stories, her sass, and her legacy will live on through those who knew and loved her.
