Edgar Alexander Bradley

May 8, 1933 ~ August 29, 2026

Edgar was born into the family of Oscar Alonzo Bradley and Willie M. Cox-Bradley. He grew up with his family on a 40-acre, two-mule farm in northeast Louisiana. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings: Robert Rich (Doris), Nellie Rich Barnes (Tom), Alonzo Junior (Doris). He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jo Ann Bramlett Bradley, and three amazing children: Cynthia Ann Bradley, John Alonzo Bradley, and Sandra Gay Bradley-Land, 10 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great-grand child.

Edgar earned a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from LSU in Agriculture Science (Horticulture/ Landscape Design). Following a whirlwind courtship that lasted 6 years, he married his forever sweetheart, Jo Ann, on December 22, 1957. (He had to finish his education; she said she would wait.) He was commissioned in the US Air Force and entered active duty in August 1957. Having witnessed the cold war firsthand in Europe, Edgar decided to make the Air Force his career, and served in Georgia, Germany, New Mexico, Maryland, Alabama, Vietnam, Hawaii and Texas. While stationed in Hawaii, he served on temporary duty assignments throughout the Pacific, including the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. (He managed to squeeze in a 3-day R&R to Hong Kong.)

During his career, Edgar was honored with the following decorations: Air Force Junior Personnel Officer of the Year - 1967, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w Palm, the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.

Having served a rewarding and meaningful career in the Air Force, Edgar retired in September 1983 in the grade of "Colonel". His duties evolved around managing the design, development, operation and maintenance of large-scale computer systems which supported the Human Resource functions and resources of the Air Force.

Following his retirement, Edgar was employed by USAA, a very large insurance and financial services company. His services were used in monitoring the upgrade of the companies' data system, and in corporate business planning. After a second rewarding career, he retired in June 1998 as the Assistant Vice President, Strategic Business Planning and Integration.

Being fully retired allowed Edgar to pursue his horticultural interest with greater intensity. He became a Texas Master Gardener in 2003 and participated in many volunteer projects, radio programs and TV spots. He and JoAnn competed in Rose Shows throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. They Exhibited in four rose shows in 2009 and brought home 84 trophies and awards. Edgar served as Editor of the San Antonio Rose Society newsletter for about 20 years. He also served as Director of one of the Senior Adult Bible Study Groups in his church for 12 years. 

Although he cherished every success, whether large or small, Edgar enjoyed family and friends above all. He carried many impressive titles through the years, but the ones that meant the most were simply "Dad" and "Grandpa".
