Earl Roy Root, 93 years young, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2025, with his beloved son, Eric Root, by his side.

Earl was a man of deep curiosity and lifelong learning, known for his thoughtful insights and unforgettable storytelling. His stories often answered questions you did not yet know to ask, and it was this rare wisdom and gentle enlightenment that drew people to him again and again.

He was a proud husband and father, devoted to the life he built with his beautiful wife, Myrna Root, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, Eric Root (55), and his daughter, Tannya Lilia Root Lee (53). Earl’s joy expanded even further when Tannya married her husband, Wiley Franklin Lee Jr., and welcomed his first and only granddaughter, Lilia Grace Lee, born on April 9, 2008. From that day forward, Earl happily shared his birthday with Lilia—a gift he accepted with humor and heartfelt pride, even if he was reluctant to share the cake.

Family was the center of Earl’s life. Born in Cleveland, Ohio during the Great Depression to Jewel and Clifton Root, he rose from humble beginnings with resilience and determination. He was preceded in death by his siblings Lloyd Root, Belle Root Branchick, and Ronald Root, who we trust welcomed him home with open and loving arms.

After graduating high school, Earl worked factory jobs to support his passion for automobiles, eventually apprenticing as a painter before answering the call to serve his country. He proudly served six years of active duty in the United States Army during the Korean War as a tank mechanic—a role perfectly suited to his mechanical skill and discipline. He left the military with the rank of Corporal, having served with precision, pride, and honor.

Following his military service, Earl built a successful career as a professional painter and wallpaper hanger, ultimately becoming a freelance contractor and his own boss—a dream he achieved through dedication and hard work.

To know Earl was an adventure; to love him was a profound comfort. His wisdom, humor, and quiet strength have left an enduring mark on all who knew him. With no enemies behind him and only love surrounding him, Earl leaves this world deeply missed and forever cherished.

We love you, and we will miss you always.

"We do not have to rely on memories to recapture the spirit of those we have loved and lost - they live within our souls in some perfect sanctuary which even death cannot destroy."

-Nan Witcomb
