Duane Lee Flowers

Duane Lee Flowers, age 57, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones. Born to Wayne and Janice Flowers in San Antonio, Duane grew up in Alamo Heights, where he laid the foundation for a life best remembered by his love of all things nature related.

Duane's journey through life took a poignant turn when he crossed paths with Sara during their school years at Alamo Heights. Although their paths diverged for a while, fate intervened, and they found their way back to each other, eventually marrying and making great memories.

A son, brother, husband, and friend, Duane leaves behind a legacy that extends beyond blood ties. His wife, Sara, father, Wayne Flowers, sister, Donna Drayton,  and a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends mourn his departure, cherishing the moments of laughter, camaraderie, and shared experiences.  When Duane gave you a grin you could not help but smile.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Duane found solace and joy in the great outdoors. His strength, coupled with a stubborn will, was balanced by an enormous heart and a delightful sense of humor. Duane's generosity, loyalty, and bravery endeared him to those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Throughout his life, Duane wore many hats –   fishing guide at Red Fish Lodge in Rockport, Texas and hunting guide at a popular South Texas ranch as well as getting his Captains license.  Duane truly had salt water in his veins.  His wealth of knowledge, gained through a myriad of life experiences, made him a captivating storyteller and a valuable source of wisdom.
Duane's love knew no bounds. Whether you were family or friend, if you knew him, you felt his genuine affection, and for that matter, disdain if he was irritated with you. As his journey on this earth came to a close, Duane faced it with dignity and strength.
Duane Lee Flowers was preceded in death by mother, Janice Waid Flowers and brother-in-law, Steven Michael Drayton.
In keeping with Duane's character, a casual funeral service will take place, certainly no pomp and circumstance.  Service will be held at 11:00am on January 28, 2024 at Schertz Funeral Home at 2217 FM 3009 Schertz, Texas 78154.  A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at Blue Bonnet Palace located at  17630 Lookout Rd, Selma, Texas 78154.   Stop by, share memories, and enjoy the music   from 1-4pm at Blue Bonnet Palace.  This promises to be a fitting tribute to the amazing husband, son, brother, and friend that Duane was to us all.
