Douglas Ray Edwards, 71, of Schertz, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday May 11, 2025. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Doug was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Douglas Ray Edwards was born on June 3, 1953 to Euell Douglas Edwards and Myrtle Ray Dry Edwards. Doug being an army brat, grew up in many locations including: Louisiana, Belton, Panama, Puerto Rico and San Antonio, TX. As a young child, Doug played baseball with the local little league. His love of baseball followed him into young adulthood where he played for the church league and the Air Force. Doug graduated from Sam Houston High School, attended a year of collage at Southwest Texas and then entered the Air Force on Dec. 6 1973. He enjoyed a long career of 25 years and retired on Aug. 31, 1998. While in the Air Force Doug received many medals. After retirement he entered the civilian workforce and worked for USAA and KCI(3M). Doug enjoyed fishing with his grandsons, gulfing, and traveling with his wife Lauralynn. He attended First Baptist Church Universal City (FBCUC) where he worked with the children in the nursery and preschool departments. He also would volunteer anywhere else that he was needed. He had a great love for the Lord and the church.
Doug is survived by his wife Lauralynn Edwards (32 yrs.) Children are Michelle Bendele (Michael), Jennifer Reinman (Marc), Jeanna Meredith, and Jay Peters. Grandchildren are Ayden, Corey, Katelynn, Heather, and Amber. Great Grandchildren are Alexander, Abel, and Archer. Siblings are Debbie Bales (Hank), John Edwards (Martha), Becky Harpster (Ken), Mary Wideman (Bryan) and Mike Edwards (Carol) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Euell and Myrtle Edwards. Grandparents Homer and Gracie Dry, William Dewitt and Artie Myrtle Edwards, and nephew James Edwards.
