Obituary

Dorothy Frances Olson

October 3, 1933 - July 14, 2026

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Dorothy Frances Olson, who passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026 after a recent struggle with illness. She was 92 years old. Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth touched the heart of everyone she met.

Dorothy was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Leslie and Gladys Hall, but spent much of her youth in Billings, Montana. Wanting to see more of the world, Dorothy entered the US Army in 1952. Shortly after completing her technical school, Dorothy met her first husband, Raymond “Ray” Suarez Jr. They were married in 1953 and so began her life as a military wife. After Ray’s tragic death in Viet Nam in 1969, she relocated her family to San Antonio, Texas. It was here that she met and later married Orville “Olie” Olson with whom she spent 18 blessed years until his sudden death in 1988.

Dorothy was the anchor of her family, and her love knew no bounds. She dedicated her life to her eight children: Dorothy Jo Graf, Leslie Daniels, Robert Suarez, Lynda Land, Jim Suarez, Andrea Haines, Kevin Suarez, Martha Whitehead, and her stepsons, Bill and Mike Olson. Dorothy’s legacy includes 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a granddaughter who preceded her in death. As her children grew and started families of their own, Dorothy found a new way to enrich her faith by dedicating countless hours in adoration of our Lord in her parish church. She also found time to create heirloom baby blankets and Christmas stockings for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Rosary vigil will be held for Dorothy at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Schertz Funeral Home, Family and friends are welcome to gather between 5:00 and 7:00 PM prior to the Rosary.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday August 12, 2026 at the Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1065 E Live Oak Rd, Schertz Texas. Dorothy will be interred at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name to the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias (NFED) at nfed.org/donate.
