Dorothy Bishop

July 1, 1945 — June 14, 2008

On Saturday, June 14, 2008 Dorothy Ann Bishop passed away suddenly after a brief illness at the age of 62. Dorothy had a loving, kind-hearted, and giving spirit that will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. She was born in Batavia, NY on July 1, 1945 as Dorothy Ann Michalak to Irene and Anthony Michalak. She lived in Batavia most of her life, and this is where she met her first and only true love, John (Jack) Bishop. In 43 years of marriage, Dorothy was blessed with three beautiful children that she and Jack moved to Texas with in the 1980s. Texas soon became her second home; however, she would travel back to New York regularly to see her mother; her brothers and their families, in addition to the numerous friends she never lost touch with. Dorothy always thought of others first, especially when it came to her husband, her children and their spouses, and her six precious grandchildren. Her grandchildren brought her so much joy, and there was not a week that went by without her checking up on them or stopping by to see them on the weekend while she was out visiting garage sales which she loved to do. Dorothy also enjoyed the many friendships she made playing Bingo over the years which was another pastime that brought her happiness. She will be deeply missed. Dorothy is survived by her husband, John (Jack) Bishop, her son John, his wife Dawn, and their children Ryan & Lindsey; her daughter Jeanette Garza, husband Victor, and their children Nathan and Justin, and her daughter Julie Smith, her husband Jeff, and their children Tyler and Emily; dear friends, Ron and Carol Smith and Victor & Yolanda Garza. Dorothy also leaves behind numerous family members in New York which include her mother Irene Michalak, her brother Tony and his wife Peggy, her brother Bob and his wife Sue, and her baby brother John Michalak and his wife Patti. Aunt Dorothy will also be remembered by the numerous nieces and nephews she leaves behind in New York. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, June 17 at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
