Donald Lionel Vandal, 88, of Cibolo, Texas passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 surrounded by family.

Donald was born to loving parents, Lionel Vandal and Yvonne Herbert Vandal on January 22, 1937 in Northbridge, Massachusetts. He later attended Chaminade University in Honolulu, HI where he received a B.S. in Business Administration.

Donald served honorably in the United States Army for 27 years where he achieved the E9, Sergeant Major rank. During his years of active duty service, Donald received a Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Donald also served in the Federal Civil Service for 12 years. Outside of work, Donald loved playing baseball, softball, and bowling. His favorite pastime was traveling with his wife, Panjai. Donald was a loving and devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Panjai Vandal, with whom he joyfully celebrated many years of marriage since 1974. He is also survived by his daughter, Lisa and her husband Dennis Bermoy, his brother Leonard Vandal and his wife Maryanne, his daughter Karen Hamlin, his son Brian and his wife Julie, who will carry on his legacy. His grandchildren, Jayden, Devin, Noa, Emma, Madison, and Destiny, who will forever remember their Grandfather as a guiding light and will share the warmth, humor, and wisdom he imparted to them.

Donald is preceded in death by his brother Robert “Bobby” Vandal and his wife Audrey Vandal, and his beloved parents, Lionel and Yvonne Vandal who instilled in him the values that made him into the great man he became.

A private graveside service with military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
