Deborah Kay
Badrak
March 10, 1959 – May 5, 2026
Deborah K. “Debbie” Badrak, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away on May 5, 2026, at the age of 67. She was born on March 10, 1959, in Long Beach, California, to Kelly and Renate Weaver.
Debbie was a devoted educator whose career left a lasting impact on countless students. She held a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in psychology and was widely recognized for her excellence in teaching, earning multiple awards throughout her career. More importantly, she was known for the extraordinary care she showed each student, meeting them where they were and helping them grow with encouragement and genuine belief in their abilities.
Debbie retired from Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District after 30 years in education and continued to impact students by working with Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children, developing curriculum and programs, and training staff. While in SCUCISD, Debbie was the founding force behind Flying Colors, a nonprofit after-school tutoring program for economically disadvantaged students. As an educator, her intention was to ensure no student would be left behind academically and that their daily needs were met. Through her efforts, she supported countless students.
Above all else, Debbie’s greatest joy was her family. She was the matriarch of the family, establishing traditions, finding any reason to celebrate, and making sure she had the most elaborate menus for all occasions. A favorite vacation destination of hers was Rainbow Drive Resort, where four generations created memories fishing on the White River in Cotter, Arkansas.
Debbie is survived by her father, Kelly R. Weaver; her beloved husband, Francis “Fran” Badrak; her daughters, Kirstin (Bregger) Garrison and Amanda (Travis) Britt. She was an incredibly proud and cherished grandmother to Austen Garrison and Brooks Britt, who brought her immeasurable happiness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Renate Weaver.
Those who knew Debbie will remember her unique ability to make people feel seen, heard, and loved. Her gentle spirit and servant’s heart touched not only her family but also generations of students, colleagues, and friends. She was the kind of person who quietly made the world better simply by being in it, through her unwavering commitment to others.
Debbie is lovingly remembered by her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her legacy of care and kindness will continue to influence and inspire for years to come.
A visitation will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on May 14, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her name to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, a place Debbie deeply loved.
