Obituary

David Walker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and neighbor passed away on February 16, 2026 at the age of 85, leaving a legacy of service, leadership, and devotion to his family.

Born June 12,1940 to Jack Henderson and Virginia Mae Walker, David graduated from East Washington High School in 1958 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Waynesburg College.

He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force on May 7,1963 and served a distinguished 24 year career before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel on March 3, 1987.

While stationed in Germany in 1965, David met Diana Waddington, a native of England. David and Diana married in 1966 marking the beginning of a remarkable journey together that would span nearly six decades, raising two children, Marc and Michele and building a family grounded in strong values and unshakeable family bonds.

After retiring from the Air Force, David served as City Administrator of Cibolo from May 1987 through October 1993 and worked as the Director of Facilities at the Air Force Village for 8 years until his full retirement on July 26, 2002. He was a lifetime member of Military Officers Association of America.

How do you say goodbye to someone so incredibly special? David, lovingly known as Papa, was an exceptional person whose unforgettable presence touched the lives of all who knew him. If you ever met him, you remembered him. Diana was blessed to meet and marry an extraordinary man. Marc and Michele were truly fortunate to be gifted a remarkable man and role model as their father, the grandkids and great grandkids were blessed to have him as Papa and John and Tammy were lucky to be gifted him as a father in law. We were honored to have had him in our lives. He was the patriarch of the family, and his loss will be deeply felt and remembered every day for the rest of our lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack N. Walker. He is survived by wife Diana Walker of Schertz, TX; son Marc Walker and spouse Tammy Walker of Schertz, TX; daughter Michele Mierzejewski and spouse John Mierzejewski of Garden City, NY; and brother Phillip R. Walker of Washington, PA; grand children Ashley Walker, Tyler and Anna-Maria Walker, Brett and Harmony Walker, Madison Walker, Nicholas Mierzejewski, Luke Mierzejewski and 8 great grandchildren - Lee, Whitley, William, Logan, Ellie, Wolfe, Willow and Greyson.

Visitation services will be held at Schertz Funeral home from 5:00-8:00pm on March 9, 2026 with the funeral on March 10, 2026 at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, Shelter 5, at 2:45 pm.
