David Culbreth, 75, of Schertz, Texas, passed away on October 3, 2025.
David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years, achieving the distinguished rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he continued his lifelong dedication to aviation and leadership through his work in civil service, where he led aircraft maintenance teams with integrity and care.
Known for his strong work ethic, natural leadership, and kind and calm spirit, David was respected by colleagues and loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle nature, quiet humor, and steady presence made him both a trusted mentor, a cherished friend and a well-loved neighbor.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David found joy in the things that reflected who he was — a man of curiosity, skill, and heart. He loved NASCAR, fishing, playing the drums, and all things aerospace. Whether he was walking his beloved chihuahua, Cowboy or working on puzzles, David lived life with gratitude and grace.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Culbreth; his daughters, Shawndell Byers and Cammie Grinestaff (Jason); his grandchildren, Kendall Wiersig (Jake), Trevor Byers (Lilliana), Shayena Byers, Andrew Grinestaff, and Claire Grinestaff; and his sister, Betty Lou Page.
David’s legacy of love, service, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him.
A graveside memorial service will be held in his honor at Ft Sam Houston on Thursday, October 23rd promptly at 2:15pm followed by a pending gathering at the Schertz VFW. Guests for the memorial service can arrive up to 15 minutes early. Those wishing to express their love may consider a donation to St Jude’s in David’s memory.
