CMSgt Joyce Ann Scholhamer was born 18 April 1941, in New Haven, Connecticut. Her Father and Mother were Henry Scholhamer and Loretta (Lang) Scholhamer. Joyce graduated from High School in 1959 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on 17 October 1961 and served until her retirement on 31 December 1989. She attained the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant while serving in various locations. She received several awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the AF Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Her favorite assignments were Andrews AFB, MD, Germany, Japan and Randolph AFB, TX. Joyce participated and twice won Air Force wide talent contests as “Female Comedienne”. After retirement, Joyce continued to be very active volunteering at the Live Oak Animal Care and Control Facility as well as participating in the “Meals on Wheels” program. She also enjoyed her years driving a school bus and bowling on a team where she established many close friendships. Joyce was good at making friends and loved to make people laugh.
Visitation 8 November, 5-8pm with Rosary at 7pm at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009. Memorial Mass 9 November, 11:30am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 6680 Crestway Dr., followed by graveside service at Ft. Sam National Cemetery at 1:15pm, Shelter 2. Donations to the charity of your choice may be made in her name.
