The family is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Clarence “Wes” Westendorff, II. He was an amazing husband of 61 years to his wife Martha, father to Teri, Clarence “CW” and “Pop” to his grandchildren Colton, Mitchell, Jordan, Lance and Kennedy. He had the life any of us could wish for. He traveled, fought for our country, raised and raced behind his children and did the same for his grandchildren. He tried to be at every event he could make. His one living wish was to make sure that all of his grandchildren graduate from college and get their degrees.
Wes was born and raised in North Charleston, South Carolina in 1938. While driving the school bus for North Charleston High School he met a young girl, that would scratch his back for bubble gum. In July of 1957, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. On June 12, 1960 he married Martha Driggers in North Charleston, the same girl who would scratch his back. The military took them all over the world, first to Izmir, Turkey where their daughter, Teri was born and then Amarillo, Texas where their son, C.W., was born. From there to Biloxi, MS, then Thailand and Vietnam. During the fall of Saigon, all Americans, as well as, his family were shipped out quickly. That landed Wes, Martha, Teri and C.W. in San Antonio, Texas where he retired. After retirement, they built a home in Saint Hedwig, Texas where he lived and passed peacefully on August 17 th . Wes’ most prize possessions were his grand children, his living legacy, and he loved them with all of his being. The night before his passed he had specific life instructions for each of them as they visited with him during his last hours. Wes was an American War Hero, patriot, a loving husband, father and Pop. He loved the Sam Houston Bearkats, the TCU Horned Frogs, the Southwestern University Pirates and the South Carolina Gamecocks, all because his grandchildren went/go to college at those universities. You could always find Wes at some type of sporting event where he supported the Judson Rockets (1979-1985), most recently the Highland Park Scots and the La Vernia Bears. He was a lifetime member and Master Mason of the Randolph Lodge 1268 and he was a Shriner. He was a avid supporter of the Shriners Hospital for Children. He was a proud Texan and loved the State of Texas, all that it stands for.
Wes in proceeded in death by his father, Edwin Dawson Westendorff, his mother, Francis Johnson Westendorff, his grandson, Mitchell Todd Kruse, his sister in law Patricia Driggers Ezell, his brother in law Robby Lamar Miller. He is survived by his wife, Martha Driggers Westendorff, his daughter and son in law Clayton and Teri Kruse, his son and daughter in law C.W. and Mitsi Westendorff, his grandchildren, Colton and Brittany Kruse, Lance Kruse, Jordan Westendorff and Kennedy Westendorff, brother and sister in law Edward and Lennis Driggers, sister and brother in law, Bobby and Cynthia Hiott, sister in law Catherine Driggers and brother in Law Bobby Ezell, along with numerous nieces and nephews from Texas, to Idaho and South Carolina.
