Charlotte Anne Irving

December 28, 1940 — April 23, 2024

Garden Ridge — Charlotte Anne Irving (Char) died Tuesday, the 23rd of April at her home in Garden Ridge, TX.

Charlotte was born December 28, 1940, in North Hollywood, California. She lived in the Belgian Congo (now called the Democratic Republic of Congo) until the age of 12 and was educated in both French and English. Her family relocated to Denair, California, where she graduated from high school. She received a nursing diploma from Samuel Merrit College in Oakland, CA. She later received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Cal State University Los Angeles. She continued her education at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA).

Charlotte met her husband George in Pasadena, CA, and they were married in 1971 at Lake Avenue Church. Their son, David, was born in 1978. The family moved all over California, living in Oakland, Victorville, Fresno, Paradise, and Irvine, CA. After retirement, George and Charlotte moved to Dallas, OR.

Charlotte worked for the county of Alameda, CA, in the public health department. She later became a school nurse for Irvine, CA, and Daly City, CA, school districts, where she worked until her retirement.

Charlotte was active in churches across California and Oregon and led many women’s Bible studies. She hosted prayer meetings and offered discipleship and mentoring to anyone she came in contact with. Her wisdom and outstanding character were evident in whatever she undertook. She was always willing to talk to people who were struggling, to pray with them, and to share life with them. She had a lovely personality that drew people to her and she could often be found conversing with friends, neighbors, and strangers. She genuinely cared about those around her and demonstrated the love of Jesus in practical ways.

Charlotte was a mighty prayer warrior who prayed with confidence in the power and sovereignty of God. She could often be found interceding for the needs of those God had placed in her path, as well as praising Him for His provision. She eagerly looked for the return of Jesus and would encourage others to do the same.

In June of 2022, Charlotte and George moved to Texas to be near their son and grandchildren. She loved being a part of their lives and interacting with them. “Grammie” would always take time to listen to their days and cheer for them as they played music for her or talked about their school and sports accomplishments. She spent time teaching them how to make her famous cinnamon rolls and imparted her wisdom to them.

In summer of 2023, Charlotte was hospitalized and eventually returned home on hospice due to a metastatic cancer diagnosis. Even while on hospice and less mobile than she was previously, she took time to share Jesus with her caregivers. She would talk to them about faith and watch church services alongside them. She would take time to pray for them and be invested in their lives. She treated them like friends and family, not simply as someone there to do a job.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, George, of 52 years, her son David, her daughter-in-law Kathryn, and her grandchildren Nathanael, Stephen, Grace, Lydia, Micah, and Corrie. She also leaves behind her sister, Minnie Wolf, her brother Daniel Watkins, and her nieces Debbie Bacos and Jenny Cloke, and their families.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Dallas Evangelical Free Church in Dallas, Oregon, or to Northeast Bible Church in Garden Ridge, Texas.

The Schertz Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The memorial service will be held on June 1, 2024, at 10:30 in the morning at the home of her son and husband in Garden Ridge, TX. Officiating the service will be Pastor Drew Leaver from Northeast Bible Church. A reception will be held following the service. Her remains will be interred at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
