Charles “Chuck” Leonard Epperson, 89, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, in Schertz, Texas.

Born in Loraine, Texas, Chuck was the third child of Clarence and Ruby (McAnally) Epperson. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force, beginning a 25-year military career. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1975.

During his Air Force service, Chuck worked first in Radar and later in Morale, Welfare, and Recreation. It was during those years that he discovered a lifelong passion and remarkable talent as a fast-pitch softball pitcher. In a 1991 letter, the Amateur Softball Association recognized his accomplishments, stating that “he was known for his playing performance and is regarded as one of the outstanding pitchers of his playing era.”

Chuck is survived by his children, Carolyn Epperson, Beverly Grassi, and Charles Epperson; his granddaughter, Kailey Grassi; and his brothers, Roy Epperson, George (Christa) Epperson, Jerold (Linda) Epperson, and Doug Epperson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom affectionately knew him as “Tot.”

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shizuko Murakami Epperson; his daughter, Brenda Epperson; his parents, Clarence and Ruby Epperson; and his siblings, Bill Epperson, Joyce Epperson Brackeen, Jerry Epperson, and Mickey Don Epperson.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors and interment will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation (www.htohhfoundation.org), the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org), or the charity of your choice.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Heart to Heart Hospice team for their compassionate care during Chuck’s final two years. They also wish to thank the staff of Pegasus Landing at Forest Ridge for their kindness and dedicated care over the past year.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
