Born on December 6, 1945, to Charles Victor Brown and Agnes Lucille Bell Brown, she cultivated a life centered on faith, family, adventure, and music. Her life’s song was defined by a devotion to the Lord, a relentless love for her children and grandchildren, and a passion for teaching.
She was a dedicated educator, spending decades shaping young minds with patience and grace, leaving a legacy of knowledge and kindness that will live on in her students.
As a gifted flutist, she filled the world with beauty, gracing the Pasadena Philharmonic with her talent for many years alongside the love of her life, James Lyle Smith. Her music was a testament to her beautiful soul.
As a two-time breast cancer survivor, Catherine’s happiest moments were spent outdoors camping with her family. Gathering around the campfire, sleeping under the stars, and exploring nature with her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews brought her immense joy and created lifelong memories.
Catherine is survived by her loving children, Philip Smith and his wife Shelley, and David Smith and his wife Michelle; her cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Walker, and Colter, who were the light of her life; her brother Charles Duane Brown and his wife Gina; her sister Sue Ann Brown Jenson; brother-in-law John Smith and his wife Grace; and sister-in-law BJ Kirksey and her husband Don, along with countless nieces and nephews with whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lyle Smith; her parents, Charles and Agnes Brown; and her in-laws, James and Mary Smith; sister-in-law Candy Brown; and brother-in-law Joel Jenson.
